Electronic Colonialism
Nowadays, colonization is not that one country dominates the other country by military force., but someone having the latest cyber technology and data. Google, Yahoo, Amazon, Facebook, twitter, and others, collectively have changed the ways we do things as well as how we think and act.
Using the internet, we are forced to continued watching advertisement and information, which have strong influence on our mind. It might be seen as mind control. At the same time, our private information is always exposed. It is hard to prevent for at least younger generation. Ben Wood reports “The average Adult Brit spends more time online than doing anything else in their life” (2016).
And internet users are not only colonized but also coloniser. We can buy a t-shirts just by 1-click even if it’s the midnight. It’s so convenient, however there are people who under abusive work condition to maintain 24 7 delivery system (refer “slavery” chapter).
Electronic Colonialism is not so obvious comparing to Colonialism by armed countries. However it effects on and changes our life. Those are various aspects of Electronic Colonialism works.
