Cognitive control
Due to their algorithm system, SNS and internet research service providers can grasp users preferences. And they preferentially show information which would be fit to user’s preference. For example, if Google judges you as anti-Trump, the algorithm system chooses negative articles for you when you research the word “Trump”. It makes you keep watching anti-Trump articles so that you could be fan the flame and hatred. To let users spend more time for using the system is essential to every e-company, due to improve their own AI (Artificial intelligence) for analyse customers preference. User's data feeds companies' AIs so that internet search engine and SNS companies try to keep more users spending more time. The intention of those companies and web writers who want to be accessed by more people leads the rapid increasing of “clickbait”, which is “designed to make readers want to click on a hyperlink (Mirriam-Website)”.
“…people are reacting to articles through clickbait headlines only and not by reading the whole article. It makes it difficult to detect fake news (The Guardian, 2017)” said Mong Palatino, who studied the Philippines version. Limitation of information would help growth of fake news.
Even global news sources cannot be 100% trustful. Thomas Mcphail (2002) suggested imbalances in global flow of communication. Due to a huge gap between developed countries with advanced IT environment and developing countries with sever IT environment (refer Digital divid), global flow of communications, which is designed by the most developed countries such as the U.K. and U.S.A, allows those dominant countries to manipulate and handle information for the fulfillment of their interests. Even though less developed countries understand this unfair system, they cannot release their information widely due to technology and language barriers.
