Scene 9

Inspiration

Prospero’s strict surveillance leads Caliban to a nervous breakdown. Now he is scared by every little noise.

Suddenly, Miranda appears from Caliban’s memory, and tells him that he doesn’t need to be afraid of noises which created by spirits. She tells the positive aspect of magic.

Be not afeared; the isle is full of noises,

Sounds, and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.

Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments

Will hum about mine ears; and sometimes voices,

That if I then had walked after long sleep

Will make me sleep again; and then in dreaming,

The clouds methought would open, and show riches

Ready to drop upon me, that when I waked

I cried to dream again.

Words above are Caliban’s line from Shakespeare's original text. He tells the beauty of noises in the island.

Shakespeare shows Caliban’s sensitivity and intelligence to appreciate sounds. However it seems a little bit sudden, because except this scene, Caliban's character is designed as  ‘Demi-devil’ ‘Poor credulous monster’ and ‘Strange fish’. So I turned this line into duet song sung by Caliban and Miranda who grew up with Caliban and believing of the possibility of magic (digital technology).

As a creator, I should be fair to digital technology. Electronic Colonialism is not criticism of digital technology, but the current system.
